The votes are in and the winner of a one-year supply of pet food provided by PetCareRx is …Gus! Gus is a six year old GoldenDoodle, and service dog to his pet parent Kathy, and an official member of the American Red Cross K9 Action Team.
As an American Red Cross Disaster Volunteer herself, Kathy started the K9 Action Team in 2009 after realizing that Gus could provide comfort to those experiencing stress or trauma at the disaster sites. She describes Gus’s role as the “comfort” part of the “comfort and aid” provided by the Red Cross. He and the other K9 team members are available for local disasters as Therapy Dogs for First Responders and clients.

Gus and Kathy also attend Military Yellow Ribbon deployment or reintegration events and serve as a source of comfort for the Soldiers, Airmen, Troops and their families.
As if they weren’t busy enough, the dynamic duo give pet first aid classes and act as ambassadors for the American Red Cross; attending community parades, health fairs, and community events.
When he is off duty, Gus loves to experience new things, play football and soccer, go for walks, meet new people, and swim.

Kathy says, “Gus winning this contest with the prize being free dog food for a year is a blessing!”
Gus will be using his winnings to get a year’s supply of his favorite Taste of the Wild dog food!
We’d like to thank everyone who entered the contest for their participation. All of your pets are so special and deserve thanks for the service and comfort they provide.

I volunteer with Kathy and Gus. I am so proud of the work they do, giving comfort to the military and their families. They deserve this win so much. Way to go Gus!
Thank you Sue!!
I love to see dogs helping people and people helping dogs – I had not heard of the Red Cross K 9 Action Team until now. I think it is a super idea!
We are the only American Red Cross K9 Action Team, and we wish every chapter had one!
Thank you to everyone that voted for Gus in this contest! It is so heartwarming to see how many lives he has touched in his 7 years as my partner both as a Service Dog and an American Red Cross K9 Action Team member. We will continue our work bringing smiles and laughter, one paw at a time for as long as the good Lord allows. Thank you to PetCareRx for the reward of free Taste of the Wild food for a year for Gus, I am more than grateful!
