August 30, 2013 – Purina is announcing a voluntary recall of one batch of 3.5-pound bags of its Purina ONE beyOnd Our White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
What: Only Purina ONE beyOnd Our White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food with both the “Best By” date and the production code shown below are included in the recall:
*”Best By” Date and Production Code are found on the back or bottom of the bag.
- PetCareRx does not currently sell the 3.5-pound bag of this dog food, so your PetCareRx purchase was not affected.
Why: One bag of the product was found to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Threat Level: Medium. There have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with these products, yet Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
What Should I Do?:
- Dispose of any unused portion of the product and feed your pet an alternate food. Keep on the lookout for signs of Salmonella.
- For further information or to obtain a product refund, please call Nestlé Purina PetCare Company (NPPC) toll-free at 1-800-473-8546, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Alternatives: If your dog eats another type of food in addition to one mentioned above, feed your pet the other food only. If you need to switch your pet to a new food, consider one of these options.
Since switching a dog’s food quickly (instead of mixing foods over a period of a few days) can cause stomach distress, talk to your vet if your pet experiences digestive issues.
