Taking your dog on a walk every day is essential, as it is a wonderful form of exercise. On top of that, the change in environment is welcome, as it makes the entire experience fun for your canine.

However, as the routine becomes mundane, your dog may not always find going for a walk exciting. Fortunately, use the four tips shown below, to make it a fun activity, so that your four-legged friend has a great time:

Allow the dog to sniff and explore

You must encourage your canine to sniff, as its sense of smell gives it a lot of information about the outside world. It also stimulates your dog mentally, which helps prevent boredom. When your canine starts to sniff a certain object, avoid interrupting it. Allow it to check it out with its nose, and return to you at its pace.

You can also have a sniff break, where your dog gets to smell things in the environment. Pick areas where are a lot of objects, so that your canine has a lot of things to do.

Change the route

Won’t you find it boring if you do the same things every day? Imagine how it will be for your canine, as there won’t be much of a difference in the path you take, to go on a walk with your dog.

You should switch it up and go a different way, the next time you go out with your four-legged friend. The new smells and neighborhood will make things exciting for your dog.

Play during the walk

Just because you are going for a walk with your dog, it doesn’t mean that it has only to be this activity. You can complement it with playtime so that your canine has a lot of fun. Bring its favorite toys, such as a ball, frisbee, or a rope to play tug-of-war (or any other similar object).

Once you reach a point where there is a lot of space, you can use these toys to stimulate your canine’s mind. On top of that, it is an additional exercise, which will help your dog maintain its weight.

Vary the pace of the walk

If you walk at the same speed, the canine can find this experience boring. When you change the pace, you are making sure that your dog is focusing on you. For instance, if you start to jog, the canine will have to pick up its speed to keep up with you.

Another thing you can do is change the direction out of the blue. For instance, when your canine is ahead of you, do a u-turn and walk in the opposite direction. As it is behind you, the dog will have to change its focus to keep up. Is there any other technique you are aware of, which will make walking a fun activity?
